Ash Wednesday is the day that marks the beginning of the Christian season called Lent. On this day, people in many Christian denominations go to church, and the pastor or minister puts ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross.
The ashes are usually made by burning the palm branches from the previous year's Palm Sunday. When the ashes are placed on the forehead, the pastor might say something like, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Ash Wednesday is a time to think about the things that might be hard or challenging in our lives and how we can make positive changes during Lent. It's like a little reminder on our foreheads to be kind, helpful, and thoughtful during the Lenten season.
