"They go to heaven because they have a relationship with Jesus." Obviously they don't go to heaven because they are cute but is that relationship one they know about before they are told about it? Or does Jesus already have a relationship with children that they don’t know about and therefore their knowledge and affirmation of that relationship is not necessary for entrance into heaven? #kidmin #childrensministry #religion

Recently I read a post from a fellow Children's Minister that I disagreed with and I wanted to explore exactly why I disagreed with the post. Are babies/children developmentally capable of choosing a relationship with Jesus for themselves? Does God have a prior relationship with children? What happens to unborn children and children who die? So many questions that the Bible doesn't specifically address.

While the Bible does not explicitly address the salvation of unborn children and children who have not heard of Jesus in specific detail, there are some passages that highlight God's loving nature and suggest God’s concern for those who may not have had the opportunity to hear the gospel.

Here are three passages that are relevant:
Psalm 139:13-16 (Old Testament)
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me when as yet there was none of them."
This Psalm speaks about God's intimate involvement in the creation of every human life. It implies that God knows and cares for each person from the moment of conception. Though it doesn't directly address the salvation of unborn children, it emphasizes God's loving care for them.

Romans 2:14-15 (New Testament)
"For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them."
This passage in Romans suggests that even those who have not heard of Jesus or the gospel may still have the law of God written on their hearts. It hints at the idea that God's loving nature and truth may be revealed to people in various ways, including through their conscience.
C.S. Lewis, the renowned Christian apologist and author of books such as "Mere Christianity" and "The Chronicles of Narnia" series, explored the concept of "natural law" and the idea that God's truth is revealed to all people, even those who have not been exposed to explicit Christian teachings.

Matthew 18:2-5 (New Testament)
"And calling to Him a child, He put him in the midst of them and said, 'Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me.’"In this passage, Jesus emphasizes the importance of childlike humility and faith. While it does not directly address the salvation of children who have not heard of Jesus, it highlights the significance of their innocence and the value Jesus places on them.

It's essential to note that the Bible does not provide a definitive answer regarding the salvation of unborn children and those who have not heard of Jesus. However, these passages offer insights into God's loving nature and care for all individuals, even those who may not have had the opportunity to explicitly learn about Jesus and the gospel.
